The traditional way of building websites
Here at Windy Pines Web Design LLC, we build high performance static websites that are lightweight, fast, and built specifically to help your business grow. No clunky page builders. No unoptimized libraries. No plugins. Our websites are custom built with optimized code to help your business stand out. Our “tech stack” is specifically designed to cater to high performance as well.
What Exactly is a “tech stack”?
If you have been browsing around for a website service, and not to mention I just referenced it, you may have heard about “tech stacks”. So what exactly is it? Put simply, a tech stack is just the tools used to build an application. Although it is most commonly associated with web development, it’s just a common term in programming to ask, “what did you use to build this?”. At Windy Pines Web Design LLC we implement one of the lightest stacks achievable in web development. Our stack includes:
-
Astro
-
Javascript / Typescript
-
HTML, CSS, and Markdown
That’s all there is! You may have not heard of any of them and that’s ok, you are not meant to. However, if you are interested, here is a brief explanation. Astro is a very lightweight static site generator that allows developers to have moderen programming features with the final built code being plain HTML, CSS, and Javascript. HTML is the content actually being displayed on the page such as text, buttons, and links. CSS is a styling language that controls colors, shapes, fonts, etc. Typescript is a programming language that adds larger interactivity to the page.
Static vs dynamic sites
Static websites are completely client sided, where every user sees the same content. Apart from very minimal vulnerability security measures (that can be argued are not needed) a static site is 100% secure. Dynamic sites or “full stack” sites have servers, databases, and code running in order for the site to be operational. A dynamic site is typically associated with being able to login to something, filling out a form, etc. At Windy Pines Web Design LLC we only currently offer static sites with “jam stack” integrations. Full stack sites are coming soon, but there is no current ETA.
Jam Stack
Jam stack is the practice of utilizing third-party integrations that have a team of engineers maintaining the security of their backend features. There are still downsides of using these as they severely limit customization, but they have the added benefit of being a little more secure. The contact forms we implement are jam stack forms through our hosting provider, “Netlify”.
Our Development process
Every website we develop follows the same practice each and every time. Our checklist includes:
-
Consultation - we discuss your business, goals, expectations, and desires.
-
Component Planning - we match your design to our custom-built generic components and create new ones as needed, to be used in future projects. This simply eliminates a ton of repetitive time by reusing boilerplate and common code.
-
Development - we further develop each boilerplate component to match your overall design.
-
Customization - every element is tailored to your brand, colors, and content.
-
Launch - We deploy your new site, and provide ongoing support, depending on which pricing plan you choose.
All of this is included in our $200/month subscription plan, with varying limitations in our one time purchase plan.
Real work you can see
We practice what we preach. This current website was hand coded using the same process, tools, and techniques we offer to every client. That means you are looking at a real world example of our work that is clean, responsive, and built to scale.
